Since the team’s Europa League final loss to Spurs the previous season, Garnacho had been shunned at Old Trafford, and the Argentine had openly expressed his displeasure at his lack of playing time.
With 48 goals and assists for the team at the age of 21, the winger had appeared to be one of United’s bright spots, but Ruben Amorim made it plain that he wanted him off the team.
Even though Garnacho joined Chelsea late in the transfer window, there was never any uncertainty about the deal because it was said he would only leave Manchester for the London team.
Garnacho has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with United receiving a considerably low fee of around £40m for the 21-year-old according to Fabrizio Romano.
Following confirmation of his move Garnacho released a statement thanking United despite the sour ending to his time at the club.
He wrote via Instagram: “Dear Manchester, after an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close.
“We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I’m very grateful for this. Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had,” it continued.
After not being selected for the upcoming international matches by Argentina, Garnacho has started high-intensity training at Comham following an interrupted pre-season.
Footage of Garnacho finishing a session quickly went viral, as the winger looked completely sapped of energy and claimed: “I can’t move my legs now man, that sprint in the last one.”
With Garnacho’s effort off the pitch often questioned during his time at Old Trafford, United fans were quick to react to the footage of Garnacho.
One fan wrote: “Look how he is breathing. He hasn’t trained like this in a while.”
Another commented: “That shows how lazy he was at United.”
A third claimed: “It’s not a lack of Amorim trying Garnacho was just lazy. Soon, he will have the same attitude at Chelsea.”
A fourth made reference to Garnacho being caught with what looked like a disposable vape last month, posting: “All those vapes he’s been smoking, I’d say.”
