According to The Athletic, Manchester United has already reached a personal agreement with Carlos Baleba, a midfielder for Brighton, and they are expected to try to sign him in January.
Perhaps surprisingly, given how poor the 2024–2025 season was, that was just United’s fourth senior addition in the summer transfer window. Amorim’s team lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final and finished in the bottom half of the Premier League standings.
Man Utd Agree Personal Terms to Sign Carlos Baleba
The Athletic claims that following discussions with Brighton during the summer transfer window, Manchester United reached a personal agreement with midfielder Baleba ahead of a possible transfer. Both Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Manager Amorim advocated for Baleba internally, but they were unable to defend the cost.
After reaching a personal agreement, Baleba seems eager to move to Old Trafford and might be the perfect acquisition for United in the middle of the park. Baleba provides Amorim with the technical skill and defensive acumen that the midfield needs.
United must attempt to persuade Brighton to let go of Baleba after failing to acquire another midfield during the summer transfer window. Kobbie Mainoo has already requested to go on loan, as verified by GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano. If he persists in January and United agrees to part ways, it will become even more necessary to sign a midfield player.
The Seagulls may need to reduce their asking price if United is to be able to entice Baleba, who Breaking The Lines has called “incredible,” to leave, but at least they must make asking the question a top priority during the January transfer window. Even if it means locating a less expensive option over the coming months, United must improve their midfield alternatives if they are unable to sign him.
