Manchester United is currently evaluating the work completed thus far and the future as the summer transfer window draws to a close.
In actuality, the Reds had a busier summer than many of us had anticipated, especially after United’s defeat in the Europa League final. While there have been numerous outgoings that once did not seem likely, the attack has undergone a full transformation.
However, because we are currently in the middle of the campaign’s first international break, this is a fantastic chance to reflect on the summer that has already passed and our goals for the coming weeks. MEN Sport attempts to manage United in this instance.
Mainoo meeting
Collecting Kobbie Mainoo for a conversation at Carrington will undoubtedly be Ruben Amorim’s first stop. Amorim is able to speak candidly and openly with the 20-year-old because of his rejection from the England squad.
After being ignored by Amorim for the majority of the season, Mainoo asked for a loan move away from United, which was sad but not completely unexpected. Nevertheless, a meeting to discuss that would be a fantastic place to start because the Portuguese head coach wants the midfield player to stay in the building and be part of his plans.
If Mainoo was so eager to leave Old Trafford, he would have handed in a transfer request rather than a loan equivalent. That suggests there should be no concerns surrounding the midfielder’s attitude moving forward and there is still a chance that he can prove to be a real asset at Amorim’s United.
Malacia transfer
Tyrell Malacia is another player that requested to go, although his future is even less definite. He will have to wait until January to go on because he is the final member of the so-called “bomb squad” without a new club.
Malacia and United would benefit from arranging a transfer for him as quickly as possible. Therefore, the only remaining choice is to relocate to Saudi Arabia or Turkey.
Clubs in either nation have not yet expressed interest, but that might all change. In any case, the 26-year-old would be playing games, even if it is only a loan until January.
Goalkeeper call
Determining what to do in the goalkeeper department may be more urgent. There are four senior goalkeepers on United’s roster, which is eventually too many.
It appears quite improbable that Senne Lammens will go on loan; if that were the intention, we would have heard about it by now. Only one of the two men that need to depart is Tom Heaton, who recently signed a new contract.
Given his Turkish ancestry, you would think Altay Bayindir would have an easier time finding a suitor. However, if a large amount is received, probably from Saudi Arabia, Andre Onana’s departure might be approved.
Someone needs to leave, either way.
January plan
Last but not least, United must begin developing a plan for the January transfer window that they can immediately put into action. Planning is crucial because the mid-season market is notoriously hard to negotiate.
It should go without saying that midfield would be the top priority right now. It’s unclear if United will have the money to sign a big-name player halfway through the season, like Adam Wharton or Carlos Baleba.
In any case, the club will undoubtedly want to recruit at least one central midfield player to help them get through the summer. Naturally, all of this is assuming that by January, other squad areas won’t require attention.
