Now that the international break has arrived, Manchester United is facing three injury concerns: center defender Lisandro Martinez, midfielder Mason Mount, and attacker Matheus Cunha. Taking everything into account, United’s present position of eighth in the Premier League table isn’t too bad.
Although ninth position at Old Trafford is undoubtedly not good or up to par, it also sounds better than terrible considering the current atmosphere around the team.
Intriguingly, they will be trailing City in the standings going into the next game, which is the season’s first Manchester Derby. At the moment, Manchester’s blue team is ranked thirteenth in the league.
But we’ll preview that one later on down the line. For now, let’s take a look at the current Man United injury situation.
Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha
In Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Burnley, neither Cunha nor Mount played the entire ninety minutes. In his news conference following the game, manager Ruben Amorim stated:
“We’ll examine Mount and Cunha. We really need those guys to be fiercely competitive.
Cunha is said to have suffered a hamstring strain. The issue with Mount is unknown or hidden.
Amorim continued by saying that Mount only played for 30 minutes due to an injury and that his substitution was merely a precaution.
“I wasn’t taking a chance on another player with Mount,” Amorim continued. The former Chelsea player is all right, then? As the derby gets closer, I suppose we’ll find out.
Lisandro Martinez
The central defender is still recovering from a serious knee injury, and we won’t see him again until well after the October international break.
“Licha is a difficult situation,” Amorim said the last time that he spoke on the center back’s situation (back in February).
“He’s going to be out for a while. We don’t know the extent of the injury, but it’s an injury that is going to take time.”
