According to Simon Stone, a correspondent for BBC Sport, Jarrod Bowen’s future at West Ham may be a worry as the summer transfer window approaches.
Despite spending over £120 million on new players last summer, the Hammers have fallen from ninth place to fifteenth place in the league standings, now holding 12 fewer points than they did at the end of the previous campaign. After making little headway since replacing Julen Lopetegui in the middle of the season, West Ham manager Graham Potter will be eager to make a number of changes this summer. However, PSR laws will limit his ability to negotiate deals.
Jarrod Bowen could be perfect answer to Manchester United’s problems
Jarrod Bowen has demonstrated that he is a reliable goal scorer, whether he is playing as a right-sided player or through the center. Despite missing around a month of activity due to injury, he has stepped up this season with 11 goals and seven assists, which means he has contributed to just under 43% of the team’s goals.
Bowen, who played 16 times for England last season, is the kind of player who will believe he should be used more frequently at the international level. He also scored 16 league goals and provided seven assists.
When it comes to hiring, Manchester United is at a crossroads this summer, and it’s critical that they fully support Ruben Amorim to give the former Sporting manager an opportunity to prove himself.
Bowen would undoubtedly be a significant improvement over United’s present offensive options because of his work rate, consistency, movement in behind, and finishing, all of which are superior to what the team currently has available, possibly with the exception of Bruno Fernandes.
However, according to Football Insider, West Ham would demand about £100 million for their club captain and one of their most valuable assets.
The bold summer swap deal Man Utd could attempt
If this situation arises, United may face a dilemma regarding the £73 million signing, who has publicly clashed with Erik ten Hag and seems to have no future under Ruben Amorim. Sancho reportedly earns around £250,000 per week and remains under contract until 2026 as he nears the final year of his agreement.
Should Sancho return to United, it could complicate any aspirations of acquiring a player like Bowen unless they can leverage the swap deal market effectively.
West Ham is likely to want to retain Bowen, but they might consider offers from United if a substantial proposal is made, particularly if it includes Sancho taking a pay cut. Sancho, at just 25 years old, is a 23-time England international and a former Champions League finalist.
He possesses remarkable skill, speed, and the capacity to create opportunities, as evidenced by his 17 goals and 16 league assists for Dortmund in the 2019/20 season.
If Potter could secure a player of that caliber for his West Ham squad at the right salary while also obtaining a significant fee for Bowen, it is a proposition that may be entertained. However, most West Ham supporters will likely be eager to retain a modern-day legend like Bowen for as long as possible.
