Manchester United held an open training session on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the Europa League final next week.
The 2025 Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham will take place in Bilbao in just seven days.
Prior to that, the Red Devils play Chelsea in the Premier League on Friday night in an attempt to snap a seven-game losing streak.
Given that the Europa League final is only a few days away, Amorim will probably switch up his team for the trip to Stamford Bridge.
The United head coach has been mindful of controlling his star players’ playing time, and it appears he may receive some encouraging injury news prior to the Bilbao spectacle.
£19m Man United star could return from injury
Regretfully, Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, the center-back duo, did not attend Wednesday’s open training session at Carrington.
After being hurt during the match against West Ham, Yoro had his head in his hands at Old Trafford, and it now appears that the 19-year-old may not make it to the Europa League final.
But on Wednesday, Diogo Dalot was photographed at Carrington, raising hopes that he would make it back in time for the championship game.
“We did see Diogo Dalot come off the training pitch, just finishing off a fitness session just before this training session,” noted Sky Sports.
“He’s been out for a month or so with a calf injury, so you just never know – maybe he could return in some sort of capacity for the final.”
Amorim confirmed Dalot’s injury at the end of April and admitted the 26-year-old could miss the remainder of the season.
However, the Portugal international could return early and feature in Bilbao.
Diogo Dalot has been a key player under Ruben Amorim
A few United players have improved their performance since Amorim took over as head coach in November.
Both Bruno Fernandes and Dalot, a Portuguese national who joined United for £19 million in 2018, have excelled under Amorim.
Dalot has been Amorim’s hidden hero, offering a dependable and steady option at right wing-back.
Dalot had an excellent mentality and was always available prior to suffering a calf injury. In order to be available for the final, he will be working very hard behind the scenes.
Amad Diallo will be the favorite to start at wing-back in the final because of his excellent play since returning from injury, but Dalot’s return might give Amorim some other options.
