Ruben Amorim all but resigned as Manchester United’s head coach with his bombshell comments after Sunday’s defeat against West Ham United, according to Richard Keys. The Portuguese boss removed his filter following the 2-0 loss at Old Trafford, United’s 17th in the Premier League this season, to spout some home truths.
Amorim claimed that he wasn’t sure whether qualifying for the Champions League would be the best thing for his players, given that they can’t win domestic games. The 40-year-old indirectly sent a message to the board, insisting United had to be “strong” and “brave” in the summer because they are losing their identity as a big club.
He also admitted that the club would be better off finding an alternative coach if he can’t change the losing culture next season.
And Keys is convinced Amorim’s raw press conference adds substance to his belief that would wants to escape Old Trafford.
“Well, now what? Because this weekend, he all but resigned. It’s hard to interpret his post-match comments after the West Ham defeat any other way.”
The broadcaster continued, aiming fire at United part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe: “Here’s the bottom line. United are hopeless. Embarrassing. They’re still going backwards.
