Bryan Mbeumo was the first to embrace Benjamin Sesko after the Slovenian scored what would become Manchester United’s match-winner against Crystal Palace.
While celebrating the stellar finish, Mbeumo shouted to his forward counterpart: “I told you!” – seemingly suggesting that he anticipated Sesko would find the back of the net once again this afternoon.
The 22-year-old is enjoying his most prolific form since signing for United last summer, with today’s contribution marking his seventh goal in his last eight appearances across all competitions.
They’ve all been decisive, too.
Sesko has netted winners against Fulham, Everton and now Palace, while his efforts in the draws with West Ham and Burnley earned United crucial points in the top-four race.
When Chris Kavanagh blew his whistle for full-time at Old Trafford, it confirmed that Michael Carrick’s revitalised Reds had moved to third in the table, thanks to Aston Villa’s shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday.
United are also unbeaten since Carrick took the reins, winning six of the seven matches he’s been in the dugout for.
