TRANSFER WAR: Liverpool and United Battle for £86.5m Leipzig Sensation Yan Diomande
LIVERPOOL / MANCHESTER — The Premier League is bracing for a titanic summer transfer battle as Liverpool and Manchester United both ramp up their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s teenage phenomenon, Yan Diomande. With a reported price tag of £86.5 million (€100m), the 19-year-old Ivorian has become the most sought-after signature in European football.
The race to secure the “electric winger” has intensified this week, with Arne Slot reportedly pushing for an early deal to stay ahead of the curve. Liverpool scouts have reportedly been present at Diomande’s last four Bundesliga appearances, where the youngster tallied three goals and an assist, fueling rumors that he is the chosen successor for Mohamed Salah.
“Frightening Output” from the 19-Year-Old
Pundits have not held back in their praise for Diomande, describing his explosive pace and technical ability as “frightening.” Currently Europe’s second-best dribbler behind only Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal Diomande has already notched 11 goals and 7 assists in 27 matches this season.
“He’s a special talent, his output is just frightening,” one scout reportedly noted. “At 19, to be out-dribbling world-class players like Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappé is unheard of. He’s a match-winner in every sense of the word.”
The Manchester United “Shortlist”
While Liverpool are making an early move, Michael Carrick and the INEOS recruitment team are not going down without a fight. Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that Manchester United scouts were in attendance for Leipzig’s 2-1 win over Augsburg last Saturday a game where Diomande scored the equalizer.
With Matheus Cunha currently filling in on the left wing, Carrick has openly admitted that the position is a key area for analysis. Diomande, who can operate on either flank, is seen as the “dream addition” to partner alongside Benjamin Sesko in a revamped United frontline.
The “Leipzig Dilemma”
Despite having a contract until 2030, RB Leipzig may be forced to sell. Reports suggest the German club needs to generate around $116 million (£86.5m) ahead of the summer to balance the books. While they would prefer to keep their prized gem, a massive bid from Anfield or Old Trafford might be too good to turn down.
For Diomande, the choice between Arne Slot’s “new-look” Liverpool and Michael Carrick’s “stabilized” Manchester United represents the biggest crossroads of his young career.
Where should Yan Diomande go? Is he the perfect Salah replacement, or the missing piece for Carrick’s United?
