“I Learnt My Mistakes”: Former Star Pleads for Old Trafford Return After Amorim Fallout
The “Carrick Revolution” is proving to be such a magnet that even those who walked away are now begging to come back. In a shocking social media post that has gone viral among the United faithful, a former first-team star has publicly apologized for his departure, admitting that his career has gone “upside down” since leaving the club following a misunderstanding with former boss Ruben Amorim.
While the player’s identity is being heavily debated in the comments, the message is clear: he wants to be part of the new era at the Theatre of Dreams.
“My Career is Upside Down”
The player, who reportedly left Old Trafford during the turbulent final months of the Amorim tenure (which ended in January 2026), took to his official channels to issue a heartfelt plea to both the INEOS management and the fans.
“Ever since I left Man United, my career has been upside down. I’m pleading with the management and the fans now to approve my return,” the player wrote. “I have learnt my mistakes big time. I didn’t understand the vision then, but seeing what Michael [Carrick] is doing now, I know where I belong.”
The “Amorim Misunderstanding”
The fallout reportedly stemmed from Amorim’s rigid 3-4-3 tactical system, which several senior players struggled to adapt to. At the time, Amorim famously stated that he would “not compromise” on his system, leading to a “frosty” atmosphere in the dressing room.
Multiple high-profile names departed or were sidelined during this period, including Alejandro Garnacho (who moved to Chelsea) and Rasmus Højlund (who left on loan to Napoli). While Garnacho has since thrived in London, others have found life outside of Manchester far more difficult.
The “Garnacho” or “Højlund” Mystery?
Social media is currently split on who the “mystery pleader” could be:
Alejandro Garnacho: Although he left for £40M, fans noticed he “liked” the post announcing Amorim’s sacking. Could he be looking for a way back to play under his idol, Michael Carrick?
Rasmus Højlund: Currently on loan at Napoli, the Dane struggled with an 18-game goal drought under Amorim but has always maintained his love for United.
Joshua Zirkzee: The Dutchman reportedly felt “discouraged and saddened” by his role under the previous regime and has only played 28 minutes of football in 2026.
The INEOS Stance: No Way Back?
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the board have famously implemented a “Zero-Footprint” policy regarding past drama, focusing instead on young, hungry talent like Leny Yoro and Kobbie Mainoo. However, with United currently chasing a top-three finish and needing depth for a 2026/27 Champions League campaign, a “redemption arc” for a former star might not be out of the question.
Interim boss Michael Carrick has yet to comment on the plea, but his track record of “healing” the dressing room suggests he might be open to a conversation if the player is willing to fight for his place.
