“The Perfect Goodbye”: Gary Neville Backs Casemiro’s Summer Departure Despite “Phenomenal” Form
The debate over Casemiro’s future is reaching a fever pitch at Old Trafford, but Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes the club must stick to its guns. Following the Brazilian’s opening goal in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa his sixth header of the season Neville took to Sky Sports to argue that a summer exit is the best move for both the player and the “Carrick Revolution.”
While the Stretford End spent the weekend chanting “One more year!”, Neville insists that this current run is the “ultimate swan song.”
“Loving Every Minute”
Neville highlighted that Casemiro’s recent performances have been a masterclass in professional leadership. Under Michael Carrick, the 34-year-old has looked rejuvenated, providing the “steel” that has allowed Bruno Fernandes to break the Premier League assist record.
“This is like a cameo at the end of his career, almost like a swan song where he’s probably LOVING every minute of this,” Neville observed. “You can see he’s showing his badge, kissing his badge to the fans. These fans absolutely love him.”
The “Brave” Specialist
Neville was quick to praise Casemiro’s impact in both boxes, particularly his aerial dominance which was on full display against Villa.
“I think he’s phenomenal at getting on the end of crosses, also clearing them. He’s brave, by the way it was an exceptional goal.”
Despite the “phenomenal” output, Neville’s stance aligns with the INEOSonomics model led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The board’s plan is to redirect Casemiro’s ÂŁ350,000-a-week salary toward younger, high-availability targets like Adam Wharton or Carlos Baleba.
A “Tricky Situation” for the Board
The situation is indeed tricky. On one hand, United is losing a “Demi-God” of the midfield who has been a “prototype” of leadership for youngsters like Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro. On the other hand, cashing in now potentially through a ÂŁ120M Saudi offer would fund the “biggest upgrade in club history.”
As it stands, the official word remains that Casemiro will leave as a free agent in June. If this is truly his “swan song,” he is certainly going out on a historic high.
