Heβs Back! Kobbie Mainoo Recalled to Thomas Tuchelβs First England Squad
The wait is finally over for the “Metronome.” In a major announcement from St. Georgeβs Park this morning, Thomas Tuchel has officially named Kobbie Mainoo in his enlarged 35-man England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
This marks a significant milestone for the 20-year-old, as it is his first international call-up since September 2024, when he featured under Lee Carsley against the Republic of Ireland.
The “Carrick Effect” Pays Off
Mainooβs return to the national setup is a direct result of his sensational form under Michael Carrick. After a difficult period where his career appeared to stall under the previous regime, the “Carrick Revolution” has restored the youngster’s confidence and tactical discipline.
Tuchel, who held his first press conference at 11:00 AM today, made it clear that Mainooβs “elite composure” was too good to ignore as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
βWe have been watching Kobbie closely since January,β Tuchel told reporters. βWhat he is doing in that Manchester United midfield right nowβthe way he controls the rhythm and handles the pressureβit is exactly what we need. He is a rare talent who has earned this opportunity through pure performance.β
A Massive “Recalls” List
Mainoo isn’t the only United player celebrating today. The “INEOS Backbone” is being well-represented in Tuchel’s penultimate squad before the World Cup:
Harry Maguire: Recalled for the first time since September 2024, rewarding his “Warrior” performances in the absence of Lisandro MartΓnez.
Marcus Rashford: Also included (currently on loan at Barcelona), as Tuchel looks to finalize his attacking options.
The Snub: Surprisingly, there is no place for Luke Shaw, with Tuchel opting for Newcastleβs Lewis Hall and Nico O’Reilly instead.
Englandβs March Schedule
Tuchel has divided his 35-man group into “two camps” to manage minutes during this critical stage of the Premier League season.
vs. Uruguay: Friday, March 27 (Wembley)
vs. Japan: Tuesday, March 31 (Wembley)
Mainoo is expected to be part of the “first camp” reporting for duty immediately after tonight’s game against Bournemouth. This gives him a golden opportunity to cement his place on the plane to the US this summer alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.
The “Tuchel Era” Midfield
Tuchelβs selection suggests a very technical midfield core:
Declan Rice (The Anchor)
Jude Bellingham (The Engine)
Kobbie Mainoo (The Metronome)
Adam Wharton (The Alternative)
