Michael Carrick has already broken another Ruben Amorim record — after just four matches in charge of Manchester United.
Amorim’s turbulent spell as United boss came to an end last month following a 1–1 draw with Leeds United, bringing an inconsistent and unsettled reign to a close. After a brief two-game interim period under Darren Fletcher, former United midfielder Carrick was appointed head coach until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Since then, the turnaround has been remarkable.
United have surged into form under Carrick, recording statement victories against Manchester City, Arsenal, and Fulham, before continuing their momentum with a commanding 2–0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.
That victory unfolded decisively. Spurs were reduced to ten men in the 29th minute after Cristian Romero’s reckless challenge on Casemiro, and United capitalised soon after, with Bryan Mbeumoopening the scoring in the 38th minute. Captain Bruno Fernandes sealed the win in the second half, extending United’s winning run.
The result moved United to 44 points, leaving them just two points behind Aston Villa and three adrift of rivals Manchester City in a tightening top-four race.
Carrick Breaks Amorim Record
Beyond results, Carrick’s approach has already seen him eclipse one of Amorim’s records.
According to The Sun, Carrick named an unchanged starting XI against Tottenham following the dramatic 3–2 win over Fulham. He had also kept the same lineup for clashes against Manchester City and Arsenal, showing a clear commitment to continuity.
In fact, the only change Carrick has made during his first four matches was a forced one — introducing Matheus Cunha in place of the injured Patrick Dorgu.
As a result, Carrick has now named an unchanged XI on two separate occasions — something Amorim managed just once in 47 Premier League matches during his tenure.
The only time Amorim resisted rotation was against Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest, decisions that produced a 4–2 win over Brighton and a 2–2 draw against Forest.
Trust, Stability, Momentum
Carrick’s willingness to trust a settled core has quickly paid dividends. United look confident, organised, and united — a stark contrast to the rotation-heavy approach of recent months.
Four games. Four wins. Records already falling.
And with momentum firmly on his side, Carrick’s United are starting to look like a team that finally knows exactly who it is — and where it’s going.
