The Red Devils failed to add to their squad during the January transfer window despite some rumours earlier in the month that a midfielder could arrive at Old Trafford.
Instead, Man United are ready to go big in midfield during the summer window instead, with GIVEMESPORT sources expecting the club to sign at least two new players in that position at the end of the season.
Midfield might not be the only area that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will look to bolster though.
United Want Bowen to Give Them ‘New Edge’
According to Jones, speaking via X, United will consider a summer move for Bowen should West Ham lose their Premier League status this term.
He said:
“West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen will be on the radar as an option to give United new edge if West Ham are relegated.”
With 14 matches left to play, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lie in 18th and six points adrift of Nottingham Forest and Leeds above them, as they look to avoid relegation to the Championship.
Should the worst happen for the Irons, there is no doubt that Bowen would be the player who would have the most interest from Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window.
The 29-year-old has scored an impressive 82 goals in 264 goals for the Hammers despite often playing out wide, while also contributing 54 assists.
The other thing about Bowen that will stand out to United recruiters is his leadership, given the £150,000-a-week star is currently club captain at the London Stadium.
Bowen Fits Into New United Strategy
The interest in Bowen comes as no surprise after United’s tweak in recruitment strategy in the last 12 months.
It was in the summer that the Red Devils decided to seriously consider shaping their squad around Premier League proven players, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brentford respectively.
The likelihood is that at least one of the future midfield signings will come from England too, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson said to be the top target ahead of Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
Bowen is another impressive Premier League performer who many believe should be playing for a bigger club, which could come to fruition should West Ham suffer relegation.
While the futures of Cunha, Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko seem secure, Rasmus Hojlund is set to complete a permanent move to Napoli and Joshua Zirkzee seems likely to leave in the summer having been largely ignored by caretaker manager Michael Carrick.
