Man United plotting move for Serie A midfielder

Manchester United will hope to build on their 1-0 victory against Newcastle United on Boxing Day when they face Wolves on Tuesday evening.

Patrick Dorgu’s first-half volley earned the Red Devils a crucial three points against the Magpies last time out, and head coach Ruben Amorim will want to see his side get the better of a Wolves side that haven’t won a single game in the Premier League this term.

In the meantime, talk is turning to the upcoming January transfer window, which opens on Thursday.

With that in mind, it appears that United are eyeing a possible m0ve for a Serie A midfielder although they may have to wait until the summer.

As per CaughtOffside, Manchester United are pondering a move for Roma star Manu Kone as Amorim looks to overhaul his midfield.

The report claims that the Manchester outfit have identified Kone, 24, is emerging as one of United’s top targets as they look to add midfielders to their ranks.

United were hoping to sign a midfielder over the summer but failed in their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba.

It is claimed that Kone is seen as the ‘perfect fit’ for Amorim’s side, amid uncertainty surrounding the futures of Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo.

While Roma are said to be refusing to entertain offers for Kone during the upcoming January window, the report suggests that the Serie A outfit could consider offers in the region of £55 million at the end of the season.

The midfielder’s contract with Roma is set to run until the end of the 2028/29 season, which puts the Italian outfit in a commanding position.

Despite this, the report suggests that the Serie A giants could be willing to allow Kone to depart next summer for the right price, with the player himself said to be keen on the idea of a move to the Premier League.
