Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson is ‘well-positioned’ to join Manchester United next summer, journalist Andy Mitten has claimed.
The Old Trafford side are known admirers of the England international and could reportedly step up their pursuit in 2026 amid Anderson’s impressive campaign at the City Ground.
The 22-year-old has arguably been Forest’s most consistent performer at the start of the Premier League season and shone against Man United’s midfield in the 2-2 draw on Saturday.
As GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano previously reported, United are anticipated to add an ‘important’ name in midfield in 2026, although it remains to be seen whether that could happen as soon as January.
Anderson, who joined Forest from his boyhood club Newcastle in the summer of 2024, is under contract until June 2029 at the City Ground.
Elliot Anderson Could Join Man Utd in 2026
Mitten, speaking on The Talk of the Devils podcast, shared what he has been hearing lately regarding Anderson’s move to Man United, saying the ‘phenomenal’ England international is ‘well-positioned’ to join the club next summer:
“Elliot Anderson is the one who would be well-positioned at the moment for Man Utd. I’m choosing my words extremely carefully.
“I start to go through the team and right, that midfield is going to change in the next few years.”
Man United looked at signing a new midfielder during the summer transfer window, with Brighton starlet Carlos Baleba emerging as a target.
The Red Devils pulled their pursuit after learning of the south coast club’s hefty demands, reportedly standing at around £120m, and opted to bring in goalkeeper Senne Lammens in the final days of the transfer window instead.
United spent heavily on reinforcements up front in their first summer under Ruben Amorim, welcoming Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
The Old Trafford side are likely to look for a replacement for veteran midfielder Casemiro after the season, whose contract runs out in June.
The 33-year-old has been instrumental in Amorim’s plans at the start of the season, making eight league starts and pairing up with captain Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park.
United could also review Kobbie Mainoo’s future in January, with the England international struggling for regular minutes under Amorim this term, playing just 138 minutes of Premier League football.
