Man Utd open to mid-season deals for Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United have held discussions with Barcelona and Napoli over potential January deals for loan stars Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

It was a busy summer for Manchester United.

The Red Devils welcomed five new signings, sent 17 players out on loan and sold two players.

Fans have been keeping a close eye on United’s loanees, which includes a list of youngsters from the academy.

Among the players impressing on loan are Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund.

Rashford scored his sixth goal for Barcelona in his 14th appearance at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Hojlund has four goals in eight matches in a Napoli shirt.

Rashford wants to stay at Barcelona, and previous reports suggest Napoli could try to sign Hojlund before the end of the season.

Neither player is expected to return to Old Trafford, regardless of how well they perform this season.

Man Utd stance clear on Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund

Ruben Amorim has already hinted that United could make a signing in January if the right player becomes available.

It would help if United could offload unwanted players midway through the season. The United head coach recently admitted that some players will likely ask to leave because they are not getting regular football with the World Cup on the horizon.

Those struggling to get game time include Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo, with both at risk of missing out on the 2026 World Cup.

United In Focus understands that United have told Barcelona and Napoli that they would consider January deals for loan stars Rashford and Hojlund, but they won’t be offering huge discounts to speed up the process.

We can confirm that lines of communication between United and both clubs have remained fairly frequent since the summer.

Deals with both clubs are in place – both are already less than market value – Rashford’s set at just £26 million, although not an obligation, whilst Hojlund’s is £38 million.

Indeed, we have been informed that both clubs have told United that they would be open to the prospect of a January deal, but in those preliminary talks it was suggested that the Red Devils might very well offer a reduction of some kind, in return for getting the deals done early.

However, it is believed that United, while in theory would be open to January deals – they are not inclined to offer any substantial reductions to do so.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey explains the situation in conversation with United In Focus.

“I am told that United firmly believe that both players are going anyway, they don’t see any scenario where both are back at the club, indeed both players are playing very well – hence both clubs willing to talk about January deals,” Bailey said.

“But United already believe, both deals represent very good value for Napoli and Barcelona so why negotiate to any major extent.”

Marcus Rashford is winning over Barcelona support

Rashford received a standing ovation from Barcelona fans after scoring in the 3-1 win over Elche at Montjuic Olympic Stadium.

The England international scored the third goal in the game, but he was replaced by Robert Lewandowski in the 74th minute.

The win took Barcelona to second in LaLiga. They are five points adrift of leaders Real Madrid.
