On Wednesday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported on AS Roma interest in Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee.
The striker is said to have doubts about a move to West Ham. Subsequently, if that stance is correct, the situation would favour Roma, however, a deal is a long way away.
The Netherlands international was a topic of discussion on Radio Lo Sport, and there’s a fresh angle. Manchester United have been offered a chance to sign 28-year-old Artem Dovbyk in a swap deal involving Zirkzee.
The Red Devils aren’t interested but Roma are trying to execute a favourable deal for the ex-Bologna player.
Journalist Enrico Camelio highlighted the Italian side’s situation, relayed by RadioRadio: “Roma were about to let Koné go this summer , that’s the truth. With that money they could have done a bit of transfer business.
“They would have signed a lower-level midfielder and a stronger striker. This is something that tied Gasperini and Massara together.”
Speaking of their interest in Zirkzee, Camelio said:
“There’s not a lot of money, even for the next transfer window. One name that’s been circulating is Zirkzee. He would be an incredible upgrade. Manchester doesn’t want Dovbyk and so no swap. Let’s wait.”
Manchester United not keen on Dovbyk
This aligns with what the Italian press have reported already. Roma would prefer a loan deal for the 24-year-old, who is intrigued by the possibility of leaving Manchester United.
He is falling short of game time under Ruben Amorim. He has started just once in the Premier League. With the FIFA World Cup coming up, he would want more action to play for the Netherlands next summer.
Only an exit from Old Trafford can make that happen. Roma have been struggling to score goals consistently. Evan Ferguson hasn’t made a mark and Dovbyk has been inconsistent.
Dovbyk has two goals and two assists in 13 matches so far this season, which wouldn’t have encouraged Manchester United.
