Paul Scholes makes a powerful Harry Maguire point and Man Utd legend Steve Bruce reacts
Harry Maguire ensured that the Red Devils sealed all three Premier League points against Liverpool after the ex-Manchester United captain netted in the 84th minute.
Bryan Mbeumo had fired United into the lead in only the second minute before Liverpool hit back in the 78th minute through Reds star Cody Gakpo.
However, United restored their lead over Liverpool late in the second half after Bruno Fernandes picked out Harry Maguire for the winner with a sublime ball.
Paul Scholes insisted that Maguire has shown his true quality inside the box when it comes to defending for United and providing a key attacking threat as well.
“I was just going to say. I was just going to say that in both boxes, he’s brilliant,” he told Steve Bruce and Nicky Butt.
Responding to Scholes, United legend Bruce added: “Yeah, he is very, very good.”
Scholes continued: “He heads everything away and he always looks like he’s going to grab you a goal, which ‘Brucey’ will tell you as a centre-half.”
What Steve Bruce noticed about former Man Utd captain Harry Maguire when he signed him for Hull City
Bruce was Hull City manager at the time when the Tigers brought United and England defender Harry Maguire to the MKM Stadium from Sheffield United in 2014.
The former United centre-back admitted that Maguire had shown his brilliance in the box when he was younger, echoing Scholes’ sentiments about the Three Lions star.
“In both boxes, he is magnificent,” Bruce told Scholes and Butt.
“In both boxes and when he was young, he had it to a tee.”
He added: “You know, he was easily Sheffield United’s best player and I’m glad to see that his career has just, you know, moved forward and it’s been tough on him over the past few years because there was a time when I thought, remember it was West Ham came in for him? And you thought…”
Maguire is out of contract with United in 2026 and the former Leicester City defender has been at Old Trafford since 2019 after his big-money move.
