Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim has provided the early team news ahead of his side’s clash with Brighton.
Ruben Amorim has revealed Mason Mount and Harry Maguire are injury doubts for Manchester United’s clash with Brighton this weekend.
United will attempt to build on their Liverpool victory against the Seagulls on Saturday. Mount and Maguire started at Anfield but Amorim has confirmed they are doubts ahead of the game with Brighton.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Amorim said: “The squad is fine. We have some doubts, we had some issues during the week, with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount. Knocks, but nothing serious.
“Licha is out, but the rest is ready for the game. I think it’s always going to be like always, but it’s going to be a very difficult game. It’s a difficult team. They are fun to watch, really good with build-up, really strong with transitions in every aspect of the game and are doing well with set-pieces.”
Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament against Crystal Palace at the beginning of February. The defender has been carefully handled during the rehabilitation process, but he will not be available against Brighton on Saturday.
Amorim added: “I don’t know [when he will return], he trained really well. Not with us, but on the next pitch and I was watching also the training.
“He’s feeling well and the knee is responding really well, so I don’t want to say one specific day or week, but he’s near to starting the training with the team. Then it depends whether he wins a place or not. That will depend on him, but he is closer to returning to [full] training. ”
United will not take any risks with Martinez, but he could be available for selection again just before the November international break. Amorim’s side visit Tottenham on November 8, which is thought to be a realistic return date for Martinez to target after his reintroduction to full training.
Luke Shaw has started every Premier League game this season on the left side of the back-three, and Martinez is expected to compete with Shaw for a starting role when he returns.
