Bryan Mbeumo was one of Manchester United’s best summer signings.
The attacker joined the Red Devils from Brentford, and although he’s not shown the same levels as he did while playing for the Bees, he’s still been one of Ruben Amorim’s best players.
Ahead of the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester United on Sunday, most pundits believe that the Reds will just about edge it and earn all three points.
However, Sutton thinks that Mbeumo could end up causing Liverpool a problem or two.
That is, even though neither team have been anywhere near their best over the last few weeks.
Chris Sutton thinks Man United will beat Liverpool on Sunday and that Bryan Mbeumo will cause ‘problems’
To be quite frank, the October international break couldn’t have come at a better time for Liverpool.
The Reds were performing well below their usual standards, with players such as Ibrahima Konate in poor form.
Konate isn’t the only one to blame for Liverpool’s recent form, though, as Milos Kerkez has also been a fraction of his former self for Liverpool.
This is likely why, during his weekly predictions for BBC Sport, Sutton said that Man United were going to win and that Mbeumo could end up causing Slot “all sorts of problems.”
“There are definitely reasons for Manchester United to be optimistic here,” he wrote.
“Liverpool have issues defensively, and their weakness at full-back might suit United’s tactics. I can see Bryan Mbeumo causing Arne Slot’s side all sorts of problems.
“My head is telling me that Ruben Amorim’s side will get something at Anfield, but I don’t want to go for a draw, even though that’s what I think will happen.
“AI might go for a draw, or the readers [Sutton does not know anyone else’s predictions when he makes his], but it is not in my nature to sit on the fence for a big game like this. Sutton’s prediction: 2-1.”
Milos Kerkez has a chance to prove his worth against Manchester United
Kerkez’s transfer was one of the first that Liverpool got over the line this summer.
The Hungarian left-back was expected to come in and solve all of the Reds’ left-back issues they suffered last season.
However, things haven’t quite panned out like that, especially since Andy Robertson has been given a regular starting role by Slot this season.
Indeed, Kerkez is still the Dutchman’s number one choice, but unless he gets his head around being a Liverpool player soon, fans are going to have more questions than answers about the 21-year-old.
If Slot starts Kerkez on Sunday, facing Mbeumo is likely to be one of his toughest challenges of the season.
The Cameroon international knows how to find the back of the net and, although he may have lost some of his pace from last season, he could still catch the left-back off guard at any point in the game.
