The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip as they look to overhaul their midfield next year.
Manchester United are keeping tabs on Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller as they look to overhaul their midfield next year.
United are in the market for at least two midfielders next summer, with one of those additions expected to be a marquee arrival. Ruben Amorim would prefer to sign a player with Premier League experience to improve the physicality and athleticism of his midfield, though Stiller is another name under consideration.
Casemiro could leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the campaign. Bruno Fernandes has a release clause in his current deal. Kobbie Mainoo is unhappy with his lack of playing time, and Manuel Ugarte has struggled since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain. There is hope that either youngster Toby Collyer or Sekou Kone could be given a senior role. At the same time, United have already reached an agreement to sign Colombian teenager Cristian Orozco next summer.
Romano confirms United interest in Stiller
Manchester United will keep their options open regarding midfield reinforcement next summer, with no top target identified at this early stage. As mentioned earlier, Ruben Amorim has a preference to sign a Premier League-proven player, with Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson all of interest. However, there are doubts over all three due to the enormous transfer fees they would likely command.
It means United could also consider cheaper alternatives, with Angelo Stiller one player who might be more affordable. It is understood that Stuttgart are expected to buy out the release clause in his current contract for just €2m (£1.7m) and will set their own price for his sale next year.
Writing in his GIVEMESPORT column, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano claims the Bundesliga club would likely command a fee of €50m (£44m) or €60m (£53m) for the midfielder. The report adds that it is ‘very difficult’ for a deal to happen in the January window and is more likely to occur next summer.
Romano also claimed that ‘Stiller has been on their shortlist of players monitored for years’ and that Jason Wilcox is one of the influential figures around Europe who has monitored the 24-year-old more over recent years. It is important to reiterate, though, Stiller is just one option considered by United and can’t be regarded as a top target at this moment.
