Manchester United could be forced to deal with several players not being available for selection as the January transfer window approaches
Manchester United are reportedly ready to stop some players from leaving the club during the January transfer window.
Manchester United are reportedly ready to stop some players from leaving the club during the January transfer window.
One of the new signings that United made in the summer was Bryan Mbeumo, who has since scored five goals after his move from Brentford. However, it won’t be too long before United won’t have the forward at their disposal.
Mbeumo is expected to be named in the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place across December and January. If selected, the 26-year-old will not be available for United during Cameroon’s involvement in the tournament and could miss several club fixtures.
Because of this, The Sun is reporting that United have decided against letting some players leave the club in January. Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo are two players who have been linked with moves away from United during the winter window.
As reported over the weekend, Zirkzee is set to request a transfer away from United in the upcoming window, with West Ham United leading the race to provide the Dutch international an exit route from his Old Trafford woes. The 24-year-old managed to net just seven goals in 49 appearances across all competitions last season.
This season, he has featured only four times, with his most recent league goal for United dating back to December, 10 months ago. While Mainoo has also been linked with a midseason move away from the Reds.
But the report The Sun claims that in the event that either player does express a desire to leave Old Trafford, United will not allow them to leave the club in the New Year.
Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui could also link up with their countries to compete at the Africa Cup of Nations, meaning they would also be unavailable for United for several weeks.
