Sunday’s victory against Liverpool felt like a watershed moment for Manchester United under Ruben Amorim after 11 months of hardship.
Ruben Amorim has previously suggested before that he can’t believe the patience and faith Manchester United’s decision makers and fans have given him.
However, United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield, securing back-to-back wins and a general feeling that things are turning a corner.
The win came courtesy of a Harry Maguire winner, with Bruno Fernandes providing a brilliant assist, stepping up big after a pretty disappointing performance.
Now, Fernandes has shared his pick for the top players in the win, naming four players, but hailing one as being ‘massive’.
Bruno Fernandes picks out his top performers vs Liverpool
There were several impressive performances by United players against Liverpool, inspiring victory at Anfield.
The fact there were so many big standout players shows that United are improving as a team, and Fernandes has now picked out who impressed him.
Upon arriving at Carrington on Monday morning, United club media were welcoming the players with the question of who was their man of the match, to which Fernandes had four names.
“All of us”, Fernandes admitted to begin, before naming specific individuals. “I would say, Senne was very good, very strong in the beginning. Harry obviously.”
Then Fernandes named some unsung stars from the game. “Cunha [was] massive. Massive last few minutes to give us some help to have the ball.”
Fernandes concluded by picking out Leny Yoro, “Leny! Leny was very important when he came on.”
Matheus Cunha is going to be a huge player for Manchester United
As Fernandes mentioned, Cunha was pivotal in getting United over the line late in the game against Liverpool.
Cunha was not afraid to get on the ball, carrying it and winning fouls to ease the pressure on the United defence which was being bombarded by Liverpool, with his work rate all game long being very impressive.
This display prompted Rio Ferdinand’s praise of Cunha, suggesting he will be unplayable soon as he continues to settle into life at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian hasn’t scored his first goal for the club yet, however, he’s come close numerous times and his general performances leave plenty to be excited by.
All signs indicate Cunha could be ready to see his United career lift off. Maybe the goals will start flowing against Brighton.
