Manchester United legend Paul Scholes and Ian Wright both felt the same way about what Bruno Fernandes’ Portugal teammate is currently doing in world football.
Bruno Fernandes has remained an ever-present force for Manchester United since the Portugal star’s sensational move to Old Trafford from Sporting CP in 2020.
The 31-year-old United captain has seen his influence wane in parts this season after Ruben Amorim has deployed Fernandes in a deeper midfield role in his system.
However, Fernandes has shown a willingness to adapt to the United manager’s demands and finally started to show his best quality in recent weeks for his side.
The former Sporting CP midfielder’s United run of form has also kept him as a key player for Roberto Martinez during Portugal’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Paul Scholes and Ian Wright react to Bruno Fernandes’ Portugal teammate Vitinha
Paul Scholes appeared on the latest episode of the Stick to Football show and Gary Neville asked the Manchester United legend about current midfielders in the world.
Speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville said: “Who’s the best midfield player, modern midfield player, current midfield player now, in your eyes, that you watch and you think, ‘Yeah, I’m having that?’”
Scholes wasted no time by singling out Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal midfielder Vitinha, who has played alongside Bruno Fernandes under Roberto Martinez.
“See, I get s—— off for this, but I did a top five the other week and because I don’t put people like [Moises] Caicedo doing it and Declan Rice, because I like a different type of midfielder.
“I like Vitinha at PSG; I think he’s brilliant.”
Ian Wright agreed with Scholes’ assessment of Vitinha and the Arsenal legend was blown away by the career trajectory of the 25-year-old PSG and Portugal star.
“He’s amazing,” he added.
“Oh, yeah. I can’t believe he was at Wolves.”
PSG star Vitinha had been linked with a reunion with Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford
Vitinha has been on United’s radar in the past and the Portugal midfielder has made a real name for himself at PSG after he left Premier League side Wolves in 2021.
The PSG star is considered one of the best midfielders in world football right now and Vitinha has played a prominent role at club level and on the international stage.
The former Wolves midfielder has lifted three Ligue 1 titles, a Champions League trophy and two French Cups since his stunning move to the Parisian-based club.
Martinez has also been able to use Vitinha’s midfield versatility to allow Fernandes to play in a more advanced position on the pitch for the Portugal national team.
