Wharton asking price ‘slashed’ as Man Utd enter transfer race

Manchester United is said to have entered the competition alongside Liverpool and Real Madrid to acquire Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

The 21-year-old has swiftly earned a reputation as one of England’s most promising midfield talents since his transfer to Palace from Blackburn Rovers last summer.

Wharton has made a significant impact in his 49 competitive matches for the Eagles, prompting speculation regarding a possible departure from Selhurst Park.

Premier League champions Liverpool and Spanish powerhouses Real Madrid have both been identified as potential contenders for the English player.

Man United join Wharton race

As reported by Caught Offside, Manchester United is demonstrating a strong interest in acquiring Wharton from Oliver Glasner’s team.

Manchester United has prioritized Wharton on their transfer list, with head coach Ruben Amorim reportedly being a significant admirer of the Palace midfielder.

The Eagles were expected to request approximately £100 million to release Wharton during the recent transfer window; however, they might reduce their asking price for the January transfer market.

The report suggests that Wharton could be available for a fee around £60 million in the middle of the season, although there are some uncertainties regarding that amount, given that the player is contracted until the summer of 2029.

Why are Man United eyeing Wharton swoop?

Manchester United was quite active during the summer transfer window, acquiring Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens, and Diego Leon.

Nevertheless, they were unsuccessful in their efforts to enhance their midfield options, despite being strongly linked to a transfer for Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Red Devils might reconsider their pursuit of Baleba in the upcoming winter transfer window, although Brighton’s asking price could obstruct their chances of securing the 21-year-old.

Manchester United may consider Wharton as a viable high-quality alternative as they aim to bolster their midfield options, which presently consist of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Manuel Ugarte.
