Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has revealed his son Kit’s latest “obsession” after the nine-year-old gave up football.
Before retiring in 2021, the 39-year-old Wayne captained Manchester United and England during his storied career.
He started a coaching career after retiring and has subsequently managed Plymouth Argyle, Derby County, Birmingham City, and D.C. United.
The 39-year-old has recently joined the Match of the Day broadcast team and frequently serves as a commentator for BBC Sport and Amazon Prime.
The former Everton player is a father to four kids, though, outside of football. Wayne married Coleen in June 2008, and the two of them have four sons: Kai, 15, Klay, 12, Kit, 9, and Cass, 7.
Even though their father was one of the best football players in England, the boys, like most siblings, have distinct hobbies.
Kai, the eldest of the four, is a gifted football player who is presently a member of United’s academy. The 15-year-old is a highly regarded prospect who has also played for the Under-18 team.
Klay, 12, plays for United, much like his older brother, and Cass, 7, is supposedly on Everton’s books, just as his father was.
Wayne claims that Kit has defied the family trend and chosen to play football instead in favor of competing in another sport.
In a March interview with The Sun, Coleen described how Kit had “retired” from football.
“Kai, he’s 15, and Klay, who’s going to be 12 in May, they’re both at the academy at Manchester United, they’ve been there for quite a few years now,” Coleen explained.
“The youngest, he goes in at Everton, he’s just turned seven, but he absolutely loves it, and the third one, he’s retired. He’s retired a few times.”
Coleen continued by saying that Kit met PDC world champion Luke Littler earlier this year and that he was an avid darts fan.
Wayne claims that the child now has a new “obsession” with a different sport, and it might surprise you.
