Wayne Rooney made an embarrassing blunder just seconds after he entered David Beckham’s home.
The former Manchester United players were colleagues for England even if their storied careers did not intersect at the club level.
When Rooney made his debut in a friendly match against Australia at the age of 17, he became the youngest player to ever represent England. Both Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup saw the two of them share the field, although England lost to Portugal in the quarterfinals both times.
However, Rooney disclosed that the two had also spent time together off the field in the most recent episode of The Wayne Rooney Show.
He explained that he, Frank Lampard, and a couple of other England teammates were invited to Beckham’s house for dinner. But it was a disastrous start to the evening for Rooney, who was still just a teenager at the time.
He said: “He’s showing us around his house, I open the door and I bumped his eldest boy, Brooklyn’s, head.
“He started crying and I’m there thinking, ‘Oh Jesus Christ’.”
Will Wayne Rooney return to management?
Having won five Premier League titles and a Champions League during his illustrious playing career with Manchester United, he has found it difficult to duplicate that success in management.
Despite his best efforts, he was eventually unable to prevent relegation to League One at Derby County, who were struggling with a points deduction.
After that, Rooney took over at DC United, his old team, where he once more failed.
During his tenure at Birmingham City, his management reputation suffered even further.
John Eustace was fired when the team was in sixth place in the Championship, but under Rooney, the team fell apart, and he was fired when the Blues were in twentieth place.
In a new Amazon Prize documentary, NFL player and minority owner Tom Brady questioned Rooney’s work ethic as a result.
Birmingham, however, kept losing ground and was demoted.
In his most recent management position, Rooney oversaw Plymouth Argyle, although the Pilgrims finished last in the Championship after winning only four of their twenty-four league games.
It looks like he has now taken a hiatus from managing to focus on his new show, the ‘Wayne Rooney Show’ on BBC Sport.
Furthermore, it seems that Rooney’s priorities may have changed as a result of his son Kai Rooney’s impressive performance for Manchester United’s under-18 team.
