United in pole position to sign £34m midfielder in January, star “ready to leave” his club – report

During the just ended transfer window, Manchester United was unable to bolster its midfield.

Prioritizing the addition of firepower to their assault before the new season began, United spent more than £200 million for Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha.

Following Sesko’s arrival, the Red Devils looked into signing Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba. But Brighton would not entertain the idea of a summer transfer.

The People’s Person recently reported that, in the closing days of the transfer window, United also made an attempt to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid. But before Monday’s deadline, they were unable to reach a deal with the La Liga team.

Manchester United want to sign Gallagher

Gallagher is still on United’s radar, and the Premier League powerhouses “will return to the fray” in January, according to Fichajes.

Ruben Amorim is eager to give his midfield more vigor. As a result, Old Trafford admires the tenacious midfielder’s profile.

In the summer, Atletico rejected United’s loan offer, but they are willing to let Gallagher go.

United is reportedly thinking about making a long-term transfer in January “if the terms are favorable.”

It is said that the Mancunians are “the leading candidates” to hire the Englishman.

Gallagher willing to leave Atletico

In the summer of 2024, Gallagher moved to the Spanish capital from Chelsea. Despite playing frequently under Diego Simeone, the 25-year-old is not considered the team’s clear starter.

The England international is thought to be “ready to leave” Atletico because he is drawn to the idea of playing in the Premier League again.

The former Crystal Palace and Chelsea player believes he still has a lot to prove in England, and a significant role at Old Trafford under Amorim may increase his chances of joining the England team for the World Cup the following summer.
