With Ruben Amorim’s options, it is brutally clear to supporters that Manchester United needs a midfield player.
At 33, Casemiro lacks the stamina to play every week, particularly when it comes to important away games. It’s quite unfortunate that Manuel Ugarte’s form has declined.
Furthermore, the Portuguese strategist had insisted that INEOS purchase Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer because he believes Kobbie Mainoo lacks the skills necessary to play defensive midfield.
The Seagulls’ were expecting a British record fee, but the United co-owners opted to strengthen up front instead. And given the outlay, it was not possible to go after the Cameroonian before the window slammed shut.
Baleba in 2026
That hasn’t stopped the team from trying to sign the 21-year-old in 2026, though; according to The Peoples Person, the 20-time English league champions are willing to spend €150 million to do so.
The Red Devils may not try to sign the former Lille midfielder next summer, despite what most people would assume.
Numerous teams have expressed interest in Carlos Baleba, and United does not want to wait that long and let other teams enter the competition.
And the report states that he has asked Brighton to accept a bid for him once the window reopens in January.
January bid in the pipeline
“Following extensive discussions with sources close to Carrington, who will remain anonymous to preserve relations, the Theatre of Red can confirm that United intends to submit a proposal in January to fend off rival suitors.
“The player has requested that Brighton accept any suitable bid and is eager to join Ruben Amorim’s group with or without European football, as he views the growing project as an ‘irresistible opportunity’.”
United officials are confident that they will eventually get their man, which will be music to Amorim’s ears.
But when is the real question, and one that could shape the future of Amorim’s tenure in Manchester.
