In order to secure an initial permanent move of £19 million for the Brazilian winger, Real Betis was able to effectively renegotiate the conditions of Manchester United’s sell-on clause for Antony. At first, if Betis ever opted to sell Antony, United would have been eligible to take a straight 50% cut of any future fees.
Now, though, the Spanish team simply has to give United 50% of any future profits—more frequently referred to as capital gains—that they receive from the player. If further add-ons are completed, the price of the Antony purchase might reach up to £22.5 million.
Additionally, they are only spending about £3.9 million annually for Antony’s five-year contract in Andalusia.
Nevertheless, that sum will rise by approximately £435,000 each year Betis secure a spot in the Champions League or alternatively, they clinch a European title.
