Manchester United may be presented with a significant market opportunity in January.
The club allocated most of their budget last summer to enhance their attacking options, while Ruben Amorim’s defense remained unchanged, even after the departures of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof.
Earlier in the summer, The Peoples Person reported that United had an interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Nevertheless, Liverpool appeared to demonstrate greater determination to finalize the transfer.
Liverpool not expected to sign Guehi in January
Late in the window, it seemed Guehi was joining Liverpool, who struck an agreement with Palace and the player even underwent a medical in London.
However, the Eagles pulled the plug on deadline day after failing to secure his replacement.
The Reds remain interested in the Englishman. However, The Times claim they will now only sign him on a free next summer.
Crystal Palace ready to sell Guehi in January
According to Fichajes, Palace is not inclined to let their captain leave for free at the conclusion of the season.
Consequently, the South London club would “welcome a sale in January” and is prepared to entertain an offer around €20m.
United has previously expressed interest in Guehi and should prioritize the 25-year-old in January.
With Liverpool seemingly unlikely to pursue him during the mid-season, United may find it simpler to persuade the Palace star to transfer to Old Trafford.
Nevertheless, the Spanish source reports that both Barcelona and Real Madrid are also keen on Guehi.
The prospect of acquiring an established England international at a very reasonable price is sure to draw the attention of additional clubs as we approach the winter transfer window.
United may need to act swiftly if they intend to provide Amorim with a homegrown leader who is proven in the Premier League, adept with the ball at his feet, and formidable in duels.
