Matheus Cunha releases Man United injury update amid nervous Ruben Amorim wait

Despite doubts about his fitness after the win against Burnley, Manchester United’s new forward Matheus Cunha has given fans an encouraging update.

Cunha was sent off at Old Trafford on Saturday after seemingly suffering a hamstring injury. Despite his good performances, Cunha is yet to score for the Reds. At full time, footage of the Brazilian strolling freely outside Old Trafford surfaced online, giving United supporters cause for optimism.

However, it was announced last week that Cunha had left Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil team because of the injury, which raised more questions. Speaking to the media following the game, Ruben Amorim acknowledged that he was concerned about Cunha and Mason Mount after they both encountered problems against Scott Parker’s team.

“It was hard to lose a player like Cunha and Mason Mount – Mount played like 30 minutes with an injury,” he said. “I don’t know [if they are long-term injuries], I don’t know but I’m concerned about that.

“They are so important for us, so we’ll see.” Amorim’s mood may have been brightened by Cunha’s social media activity on Tuesday.

Taking to Instagram, Cunha sent a message to United and provided a brief update on his injury status. “What an incredible environment, it’s great to be here,” he wrote.

“I’ll be back soon, always with joy and gratitude. Thanks for all the messages.”

His tone conveys that United won’t be without Cunha for very long, which is undoubtedly the hope. The Reds will play their first game back at the Etihad Stadium against local rivals Manchester City following the international break.

Benjamin Sesko or Kobbie Mainoo might start in Cunha’s place if he is unable to play in the match.
