Manchester United have the chance to sign players again when the January transfer window opens for business

Next Sunday marks Manchester United’s return to Premier League action. To play rivals Manchester City, they will go to the Etihad Stadium. After their first three games, the Red Devils have four points.

So far this season, they have defeated Burnley, drawn with Fulham, and lost to Arsenal. In their final match before the international break, Ruben Amorim’s team defeated the latter 3-2. At Old Trafford, Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty in the closing seconds against the Clarets.

Manchester United target Mike Maignan

Fichajes claims that United has “set their sights” on acquiring Mike Maignan, the goalkeeper for AC Milan. The 30-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign. He is a 32-cap France international. If nothing changes, he is scheduled to become a free agent in June of next year.

Since joining his current club in 2020, Maignan, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, has remained on their books. As their number one, he has served the Serie A powerhouses admirably. During his tenure at San Siro, the goalie has made 166 appearances in all competitions, including three this season, and has won the league title once.

The ‘keeper rose up through the academy at PSG and was a regular for the Ligue 1 side at various different youth levels as a youngster. Despite playing for their B team, he never featured for the first-team. Instead, he was sold to Lille and became their first choice before AC Milan came calling.

United could see Maignan as someone to provide competition with new boy Senne Lammens between the sticks. Lammens was snapped up on deadline day from Royal Antwerp. If Maignan joined the Red Devils, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see either Andre Onana or Altay Bayindir leave, or both.

Following his move to England earlier this week, Lammens said: “This is my dream move. When I was five, United was at the height of football and you keep in your memory how big Manchester United is, so, when I heard they were interested, it was like a childhood dream.

“I remember being a kid, Manchester United winning the Champions League and winning the league, and also [I want] to help the team get to a level that you can compete for a title again and to play Champions League again. That’s also one of my biggest points, that I want to grow with the team and go up to the heights that used to be Manchester United.

“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world and the Premier League is the biggest competition in the world. In my team in Antwerp, there were some players who were also in England and, when I talked to them about. Manchester United, you could directly see their face change. The club alone, the aura of the club, it’s massive, and being here today, seeing it, it’s a different level. It’s crazy. So, that was also a big part of why I chose Manchester United. I’m very happy that we could get it done today.”
