Manchester United linked Zinedine Zidane ‘reaches agreement’ for shock appointment

Long-term target of Manchester United, Zinedine Zidane, has confirmed his unexpected return to management.

This information comes from reports indicating that the iconic French figure is prepared to take on another role in the dugout after a four-year hiatus since his last position – particularly as Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, finds himself in a vulnerable situation.

The Red Devils have managed only one victory this season out of four matches, enduring a disgraceful elimination from the League Cup, with their Portuguese manager’s position precariously hanging by a thread.

Zinedine Zidane has long been linked with the Manchester United post

Despite the Manchester Evening News asserting that Amorim is not in immediate danger of being dismissed, a report from Football Insider suggests that United is already considering potential replacements. Unai Emery’s role at Aston Villa is reportedly in jeopardy following a challenging transfer window in the Midlands.

The three-time Champions League-winning coach Zizou has been frequently associated with the United managerial position. However, he acknowledged in 2022 that it was improbable for him to succeed Ole Gunnar Solksjaer due to his inability to speak fluent English.

Recent reports indicate that Zidane may soon take over from another former Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho.

According to Turkish publication Sabah, the 1998 Ballon d’Or winner has initiated discussions with Fenerbahce, while another Turkish outlet, Oksijen, claims that a preliminary agreement has already been established.

This move would directly contradict Zidane’s previous statement, where he remarked, “I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work in a different way,” given that he does not speak Turkish.

FourFourTwo reports that while Zizou, who once held the record for being the most expensive player in history, has long been a favored option by the Glazer ownership, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group aims to steer the club in a different direction and does not share the same enthusiasm for such a high-profile name.

Nonetheless, it has been widely believed that Zidane is eager to return to management with the French national team once his former teammate Didier Deschamps steps down.

United will resume Premier League action this weekend against Manchester City.
