Manchester United handed huge injury boost at crucial time for Ruben Amorim

The latest Man Utd injury news ahead of their clash with Chelsea this weekend.

Manchester United has received a significant injury boost following Lisandro Martinez’s announcement that he has resumed training on the grass.

The 27-year-old has been out of action since February due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, which has been a considerable loss for head coach Ruben Amorim.

Before his injury, Martinez was an essential member of the first-team squad and was regarded as a leader in the dressing room under Amorim. His absence was keenly felt as United faced a difficult conclusion to the season, achieving their lowest-ever Premier League finish, failing to qualify for European football, and concluding the season without any trophies after losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

Given the serious nature of his injury, no specific timeline was established for his anticipated return, as ACL injuries generally require a recovery period ranging from six months to a full year. Martinez had privately hoped to be fit again following the September international break, and his recent social media update suggests that his rehabilitation is progressing positively.

On Wednesday afternoon, Martinez shared a photo on Instagram of himself participating in an individual training program on the grass in preparation for his expected return to team training. Manchester United is cautious about rushing the central defender back into action after such an extended absence, and it may be after the next international break before he is ready to participate again.

Amorim is notoriously cautious when it comes to the reintegration of injured players and although Martinez is expected to play a key role when he is available, he will not be risked until he is deemed totally match fit again.

The United head coach is expected to provide an injury update when he holds his next pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon. Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot all missed the defeat to Man City last weekend but could be back to face Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
