Man Utd now agree terms with 42-cap star as Amorim targets next signing – report

According to Football Transfers, Manchester United have agreed on personal terms with Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck ahead of a potential January move.

This summer, the Red Devils strengthened their attacking unit by acquiring Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig; however, Rasmus Hojlund left for a season-long loan at Napoli at the same time.

Welbeck’s personal terms were finalized on the day of the transfer deadline, according to Football Transfers, but Brighton was unable to find a suitable replacement in time to allow the Englishman to return to Old Trafford.

At the beginning of the new year, the 34-year-old is probably going to be reunited with the Mancunian giants. Given that his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, Brighton would be willing to sell him for a reduced amount.

Possible deal

Sesko, who had a solid reputation at Leipzig, has joined United. Although he has been hailed as a striker with enormous potential, it might take him some time to get used to the Premier League’s increased physicality and intensity.

Despite playing as the number nine in the early going of the season, Matheus Cunha is currently out due to a hamstring injury. This might have contributed to United’s late bid to sign Welbeck.

Given that Cunha would be absent for a few weeks, they might have wanted competition and cover for Sesko. The backup to play up front is Joshua Zirkzee, but the former Bologna player hasn’t done much as a number nine.

Zirkzee has said that he considers himself to be somewhere between an offensive midfielder and a striker. Since the end of the previous season, manager Ruben Amorim has been using him as one of the starting tens off the bench.

Prior to his unexpected 2014 transfer to Arsenal, Welbeck began his career with United. He has rebuilt his career at Brighton after a difficult period marked by numerous chronic injuries, and he is now a favorite there.

Welbeck, who has 42 caps for the England national team, might be persuaded to spend his last years at Old Trafford. United may sign him in January with little transfer fees and cheap pay.
