Despite the window closing on Monday, Manchester United still has time to make one more summer transfer. The Red Devils had a busy time as they cut some marginal players from their roster and made some important additions. As United looks to return to the top tiers of the Premier League, Ruben Amorim will be hopeful that his new additions will click right away.
Benjamin Sesko was the most costly of the five new players that United ultimately acquired, costing over £216.8 million. Diego Leon, Senne Lammens, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha accompanied him. Twelve players, including the majority of those assigned to the “bomb squad,” have also left Old Trafford since the end of the last campaign.
Before Alejandro Garnacho finalized a £40 million transfer to Chelsea following months of discussions, Marcus Rashford signed a loan deal with Barcelona. While Jadon Sancho was loaned to Aston Villa, Antony returned to Real Betis on a permanent basis.
Tyrell Malacia, who has been judged surplus to needs at United, was the only member of the “bomb squad” who was unable to gain a move away.
The Dutchman still has time to find a new home, even if the deadline has passed. The window is still open in a number of nations, including as Saudi Arabia, Belgium, and Turkey.
Given how many Premier League players have relocated to Turkey in recent seasons, it would be a feasible option for Malacia. In the meantime, one of Saudi Arabia’s state-sponsored teams may choose to take a chance on signing him.
Other possibilities include Serbia, Greece, and Switzerland, where teams are still free to add fresh players.
Given that Patrick Dorgu, Luke Shaw, and Diego Leon would be chosen to play left wing-back for United this season, it appears doubtful that Malacia will get any action.
ESPN reports that United is still ‘exploring exit avenues’ for the defender, raising the possibility that a solution will be found in the days ahead. There is still a remote possibility that he will be reintegrated into the first team, though.
Amorim had earlier stated that if his “bomb squad” failed to secure exits during the summer, he would be amenable to their return.
The United boss stated during the preseason: “It’s a different history when the window closes. We must receive the players when the window closes. After then, anything can happen, including a new life.
