Turkish writer Yagiz Sabuncuoglu claims that Trabzonspor raised their offer this summer to capture goalkeeper Andre Onana from Manchester United.
This season, the Cameroon international has lost favor with the Red Devils. He has only played once, against Grimsby Town, in the Carabao Cup.
Senne Lammens, who arrived from Antwerp on deadline day, might replace Altay Bayindir, who has been the Premier League’s consistent starter.
As a result, Onana might be dropped to the third-choice goalkeeper position, and it’s unclear if he plans to leave anytime soon.
According to Sabuncuoglu, Trabzonspor has “increased their offer” to sign Onana. Whether they are looking at a temporary or permanent deal is not made clear.
Onana may not be tempted to join Trabzonspor
Over the previous two seasons, the 29-year-old has been the Red Devils’ staple in goal.
Although he has had a number of exceptional performances, they have been interspersed by a number of mediocre efforts.
The former Inter Milan player has committed more mistakes resulting to shots (12) and goals (8), respectively, than any other Premier League goalie in the past two years.
With Lammens in goal, United has chosen a fresh approach. Last season, the Belgian averaged 4.2 saves per game and possesses amazing reflexes.
The 23-year-old has demonstrated exceptional long-ball distribution skills and is also adept at handling the ball at his feet. Lammens may soon emerge as United’s unchallenged goalkeeper.
Despite this, Onana may not contemplate a move to the Super Lig.
The goalkeeper, who was signed for £47 million from Inter, recently turned down a proposal from Turkish champions Galatasaray to fight for his place at the Red Devils.
Based on this alone, we would be surprised if he were to give the green light to join Trabzonspor. They have a less talented squad compared to the Super Lig holders.
