Insider: Man United star could quit after ‘huge’ Saudi Pro League offer

Harry Maguire could be tempted to leave Man United if a “huge” offer arrives from the Saudi Pro League, according to their former chief scout.

The 32-year-old will make his decision depending on his playing time this season, according to an exclusive interview with Football Insider with Mick Brown, who spent more than ten years working at Old Trafford during Man United’s most successful era and is still very well-connected there.

Numerous Middle Eastern clubs are rumored to be interested in signing the center-back on a free transfer because his contract has less than a year left on it.

Although Man United may not be able to let Maguire to leave in 2026, they were certain in August that he was not for sale because he was still part of Ruben Amorim’s plans.

This follows Brown’s January statement to Football Insider that Maguire will meet with Amorim to discuss his future with the team.

Harry Maguire could snub Man United to join Saudi Pro League

In May, Brown informed Football Insider that Man United intends to extend Maguire’s contract because they want to keep him after his current one expires.

Amid worries about his role, the former scout, who has over ten years of expertise recruiting elite players from their most successful era, has maintained that the defender is likely to leave if he isn’t playing frequently.

Maguire could end up leaving Man United,” he told Football Insider.

“There’s talk about interest from Saudi Arabia, and if they come in with a huge offer for him then he’s going to have to consider it.

“In my opinion, he’s still one of United’s best defenders and the manager has spoken about how important he is and all of that sort of thing.

“I think if he’s that important, they need to be playing him from the start because otherwise he’s well within his rights to be looking at moving away.

“I expect he’ll wait and see how the season goes, and if he’s not playing regularly, he might take the money and move on.

“They’ve got a lot of options, a lot of younger players, but Maguire’s experience can be so valuable as we’ve seen when he’s called upon.

“Amorim says a lot of positive things about him, but at the end of the day if he’s not playing games, there’s no reason why he would stick around.”

While competition for places is growing at Old Trafford, there remains a belief that Maguire can be a crucial player in any success the club have.

Ruben Amorim loves working with Maguire after Man United U-turn

According to Brown, Football Insider Despite the early belief that Maguire may be included in a team makeover, his performances have won Amorim over.

Because of his outstanding performances, the manager has been quite supportive of the former club captain, stating that he is a “leader” and a “important player in the team.” [BBC]

Despite Man United’s eventual penalty shootout loss to Grimsby, he has played in three of their four games this season, albeit only once from the start, and scored a late equalizer to save his team.

Last season, the former England star made 40 appearances across all competitions and proved his worth as a valuable squad player despite United’s dreadful season.

Despite the options at Amorim’s disposal, he continues to insist on Maguire’s place in the squad, raising further questions about where his long-term future lies.
