Exclusive: Man Utd agree personal terms with Danny Welbeck ahead of possible January move

Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck ahead of a possible January deal, FootballTransfers understands.

Before joining Arsenal in 2014, the former England international played for 13 years at Old Trafford. We’ve heard that he’s keen to making a spectacular comeback to the team.

With ten goals in the English top division for Brighton last season, the 34-year-old had the best goalscoring season of his Premier League career. The Manchester United leadership has recognized him as a cheap center forward option.

Welbeck and Manchester United reached a personal agreement on Transfer Deadline Day, according to FootballTransfers. However, Brighton did not have time to locate a replacement, therefore the transaction did not go through.

Although Brighton is open to a sale because Welbeck’s contract expires in the summer, we are aware that a deal might be reached during the January transfer window.

Welbeck’s name was initially mentioned when the Red Devils inquired about a potential summer transfer for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to reports. Jason Wilcox is the main driver behind Manchester United’s pursuit of the seasoned striker.

Man Utd interested in Danny Welbeck

On August 9th, Manchester United paid €76.5 million to purchase RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but the team still has interest in Welbeck after approving Rasmus Hojlund’s transfer to Napoli.

Before choosing to join Arsenal in 2014, the 34-year-old scored 29 goals in 142 senior games for the Red Devils, collecting eight titles with his boyhood team.

After five years at Arsenal, Welbeck played for Watford for a year before being let go following a season marred by injuries at Vicarage Road. In October 2020, Brighton acquired him on a free transfer, and he has since excelled as a Seagull.
