Exclusive: Kobbie Mainoo leaves Ruben Amorim fuming as Man Utd miss out on Conor Gallagher

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been left furious with the situation at Old Trafford following the summer transfer window, particularly regarding the situation with Kobbie Mainoo.

According to FootballTransfers, Amorim is upset that the club’s management turned down Mainoo’s desire for a loan move abroad because the Portuguese player wanted to sign his own midfield player.

Amorim aimed to increase his alternatives in the middle of the field by bringing in Conor Gallagher, a former Chelsea player who was thought to be a more resilient and adaptable option for the Red Devils.

Before the transfer deadline, the coach was informed that Mainoo would stay with the team and that no new players would be selected.

Amorim and Manchester United have long targeted Gallagher. He was pursued by the club as early as January, but they were informed that no agreement could be reached at that time and that they should try again in the summer.

Amorim is displeased that he has been left with a player who had made it clear he did not want to be with Man Utd this summer, particularly when Gallagher was seen as a possible signing.

Late in the transfer window, when the Red Devils questioned Diego Simeone about the player, they were informed that a loan agreement was not feasible. United was unwilling and unable to finance a long-term relocation.

Mainoo had pushed for loan

Ruben Amorim has made it plain that Mainoo is merely a backup option to Bruno Fernandes in the center of the field, which has made him keen for a loan move away from Old Trafford.

The young England player is anxious for first-team action to make sure his game develops the way he believes it should because he worries that he might not receive enough attention in the lead-up to the 2026 World Cup.

The young player may not have many chances to receive regular playing time because United is already eliminated from the Carabao Cup and there is no European action.
