It has been nearly a year since Amorim took over at Old Trafford, succeeding Erik ten Hag, yet we have yet to witness any substantial progress under the Portuguese coach. Amorim has introduced a new three-at-the-back formation, and he appears unwilling to alter his approach despite the disappointing results and subpar performances.

In United’s most recent match, they suffered a comfortable defeat against Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s team hardly needing to exert themselves to claim the three points. Amorim maintained his standard system, which produced the same outcome, leaving the Red Devils in 14th place in the Premier League by the end of the weekend.

Man Utd Target Unai Emery to Replace Amorim

According to various reports, Manchester United have identified Aston Villa manager Emery as their primary target should they decide to make a change in the managerial position. It has been suggested that there is discontent at Villa Park following a lackluster start to the season, presenting an opportune moment for United to pursue the Spanish manager.

There is no doubt that Emery represents an improvement over Amorim, and while it is still early in the Premier League season, the latter has demonstrated minimal progress over nearly a year. His current tactical approach is not maximizing the potential of several skilled players, indicating that a transition may be necessary. Although there is no assurance that Emery would be available, Villa’s disappointing start to the season adds to the urgency of the situation.

Emery has proven to be more versatile than Amorim, achieving considerable success in the Premier League by elevating Villa from a team struggling in the lower half of the standings to one that has qualified for the Champions League.

Players such as Luke Shaw and Manuel Ugarte have underperformed under Amorim this season, yet the United manager continues to include them in the starting lineup. His reluctance to adapt could jeopardize his position, and it is imperative that a move for Emery is initiated promptly to salvage their campaign before it becomes irretrievable.
