David Ornstein: Man Utd star open to joining Euro club on loan after agreement reached

Journalist David Ornstein has disclosed that Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is amenable to going on loan to Trabzonspor.

According to reports, the Turkish team would like to have the Cameroonian goalkeeper in goal for their upcoming match against Fenerbahce on September 14 and is hoping to sign him before the transfer deadline on September 12.

According to Ornstein, Onana will not be charged a price or have a buyout option when he moves to Turkey. The goalie is currently awaiting the terms of his planned deal with the Super Lig.

As previously reported by GIVEMESPORT senior journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United is thought to have already reached an agreement with Trabzonspor on a loan agreement in exchange for Onana’s departure.

Trabzonspor Working on Andre Onana Deal

According to Ornstein, Onana is open to joining Trabzonspor on loan before the Turkish transfer deadline on September 12, with no fee or option to buy included in the deal:

For United’s first three Premier League games of the season, Onana was benched in favor of Altay Bayindir; he only made one appearance, in the unexpected EFL Cup second-round loss to Grimsby Town.

After Senne Lammens arrived from Royal Antwerp on deadline day, the Cameroonian goalkeeper now faces an even more difficult competition for first-team minutes, as the Belgian is expected to take over as United’s new number one this season.

Onana made 50 appearances for the Red Devils last season, giving up 65 goals and recording 11 clean sheets. He joined United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.

The 29-year-old reportedly upset head coach Ruben Amorim when he arrived at Carrington for preseason and wanted a pay increase, according to a prior story from The Athletic.

After United failed to qualify for the Champions League in 2023–2024, Onana reportedly returned for preseason training in search of a new contract after being unhappy with a 25% pay cut.

Since the Cameroonian gave up four goals in United’s first three Premier League games, Amorim has removed him from his starting lineup in favor of Bayindir, who has helped the team earn four points out of a possible nine.
