Manchester United, who have only won one of their first three games of the season under Pep Guardiola, will be hoping to cause issues for rivals Manchester City when they return from the international break.
United supporters were given cautious hope after the Red Devils defeated Burnley 3-2 in their most recent encounter. But Sunday’s trip to the Etihad won’t be simple, particularly if Ruben Amorim has to make lineup decisions due to injury concerns.
Ahead of the game, four Man United players could be in line to miss the game against City, with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot all in doubt. But are they likely to start, and if not, when will they return?
Matheus Cunha
Cunha had to leave the Brazil squad and concentrate on his recuperation for Manchester United after sustaining a hamstring injury during the victory over Burnley prior to the international break.
He is presently undergoing evaluation in preparation for Sunday’s match, and his social media posts, which included the phrase “I’ll be back soon, always with joy and gratitude,” gave many supporters hope that he would play versus City. I appreciate all of the messages.
Possible return date – Sunday 14 September vs Man City (A)
Mason Mount
After playing a false nine role with Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for Amorim in the early going of the season, Mount also had a slight injury against Burnley.
Ahead of the City match, he is also being evaluated; if he is not fit, Amorim may start Benjamin Sesko for the first time this season in the Premier League.

Diogo Dalot
Due to a muscular injury, defender Dalot was forced to miss the Portugal national team’s international break. It shouldn’t be a big problem, though, and he should return for Sunday’s match against Manchester City even if he isn’t ready to start.

Lisandro Martinez
United’s sole chronic injury. Martinez has been sidelined since January and is still recuperating from the ACL injury that required surgery earlier this year in February.
Although he has resumed his training, there is no guarantee that he will be fit for the Man City match. Martinez is probably hoping to make a comeback in the latter part of this year or the first part of next year.
Possible return date – late November
