Senne Lammens was signed by Manchester United from Royal Antwerp on the day of the deadline.
The Red Devils had to choose between Lammens, who was also a target for Aston Villa, and Emiliano Martínez, a 32-year-old goalkeeper who was apparently being considered by the team.
While Martínez remains at Aston Villa, Manchester United choose to wager on the Belgian.
Het Laatste Nieuws posted a photo of Lammens getting aboard a private jet for his journey to England on Monday. The specifics of his transfer to Old Trafford are revealed in a new HLN story.
Galatasaray was eager, as were Manchester United and Aston Villa. While Ruben Amroim’s team waited until Sunday to submit an official bid, the Villans had indicated that they were willing to give €25 million for the stopper. The proposed price, according to the newspaper, was less than what Aston Villa was prepared to pay.
The 23-year-old first agreed to personal terms with Manchester United on the day of the deadline, after which he traveled to the UK. According to HLN, Royal Antwerp had not reached an agreement with the Red Devils when he got on the private plane.
Lammens was “theoretically not allowed to travel, but he did so anyway,” according to their statement. The Jupiler Pro League team was upset that he had traveled without their consent, as evidenced by the “some resentment” that existed inside the club.
According to the newspaper, Manchester United and Royal Antwerp found an agreement for €22m plus €3m bonuses… when the stopper was mid-air.
