The international break has been broadly positive for Manchester United, but Bryan Mbeumo’s Cameroon suffered a setback.
Cameroon required a victory against Cape Verde in their most recent World Cup qualifying match to clinch their spot for 2026; however, they experienced a 1-0 defeat instead.
The difficulties faced by Man Utd were compounded by the unfortunate incident where their transfer target, Carlos Baleba, lost possession of the ball, leading to Cape Verde’s winning goal.
Some comfort can be derived from witnessing Bryan Mbeumo alongside Baleba, as the Man Utd forward offered consolation to his international colleague, and it is hoped that by the same time next season, he will also be his club teammate.

The significance of these international friendships is immense when discussing club transfers.
Andre Onana undertook a comprehensive charm offensive to persuade Mbeumo to join Old Trafford, although it is a different issue altogether that he himself will no longer be present.
The same applies to Casemiro-Matheus Cunha, and, hopefully, Mbeumo-Baleba in the future.
Baleba experienced the humiliation of being the catalyst for Cameroon’s defeat against Cape Verde as he lost possession leading to their goal.
Nevertheless, at merely 21 years of age, he is undergoing valuable experiences that will contribute to his growth and resilience.
Mbeumo was seen comforting a heartbroken Baleba after the goal, who sank to his knees as the World Cup aspiration remained out of reach.
