Benjamin Sesko warned he has already ‘created an issue’ in Man Utd dressing room

According to reports, Benjamin Sesko’s choice to wait until the very end of the shootout against Grimsby to attempt a penalty “will be an issue within the dressing room” as the Manchester United rookie continues to face criticism.

The Slovenian, who comes with a stellar reputation, was Ruben Amorim’s most costly summer acquisition. Sesko, who is considered to be among the top young strikers in Europe, waited until the very end of the League Two team’s Carabao Cup defeat to raise his hand.

As every outfield player stepped up, Sesko, who has yet to start a Premier League game or score a goal, looked on. Even if he eventually converted from 12 yards out on the tenth penalty, a player who was signed for that amount was expected to do much more.

Dietmar Hamann advises Sesko not to repeat the tactic, stating that he must start off well and that letting defenders go ahead of him will hurt his reputation in the locker room.

He told CoinPoker: “Now, if you play a League Two side in the League Cup and it goes to a penalty shootout, and you cost £85million, you’ve got to take one of the first five penalties. You have to, because the players will look at you. The fans will look at you because it will be an issue within the dressing room, I can tell you that.

“Because a centre-back or a full-back has to take a penalty and the star signing doesn’t take one until the 10th penalty. This is what he has to be aware of because if you do one or two things like this early on in your career, the career might be finished at this club before it starts because you’ve got people against you. I think he has to be aware of it.

“I don’t know who advises him, I don’t know who he listens to, but I think somebody should have a word with him and tell him about the dynamics within a team or a dressing room or a club like Manchester United, because he mustn’t do this again. If he does, as I said, it could be over before it started.”

Later, it was revealed that Sesko, who participated in a full game for the first time in months, had been battling cramps and that United wanted to hold off on deploying him until they had run out of options. In the league, the Slovenian has persisted in getting by with cameos off the bench.

That has made it more difficult for him to find the net, and he has yet to make a significant contribution to the struggling team. When Joshua Zirkzee was brought on ahead of him in the victory over Burnley, there were some eyebrows raised, but Sesko maintains that he is improving daily as he adjusts to his new challenge.

“I am getting better and faster in every training session, and I am also progressing in my football mentality every day,” he said.
