Cameroon’s shocking 1-0 loss to Cape Verde in the CAF World Cup qualifiers once again made headlines for all the wrong reasons, thanks to Manchester United star Andre Onana.
Onana had a horrible outing from the start in goal for Cameroon on Tuesday night.
He gave striker Dailon Livramento the game-winning goal after making a terrible mistake.
The 24-year-old broke through obstacles and raced clear through on goal in the 54th minute after charging forward from his own half.
Onana had all the time to rush out and narrow the angle.
Rather, he held fast to his line and let Livramento easily slip past him.
It was a startling error of judgment, typical of a new goalie rather than a seasoned Champions League champion.
His lack of confidence, poor decision-making abilities, and technical shortcomings in his shot-stopping were all made evident in that moment.
Since joining United from Inter Milan in 2023, the 29-year-old has committed similar mistakes.
On the day of the transfer deadline, the Red Devils acquired teenage goalie Senne Lammens.
At Old Trafford, he is anticipated to contend with Altay Bayindir for the top slot.
By benching Onana for the first three Premier League games, United manager Ruben Amorim has demonstrated a brutal approach.
United and Trabzonspor, a Turkish team, have already reached an agreement for Onana to join them on loan for the season.
The goalie has also given the all-clear, essentially admitting that his ambition of playing for Old Trafford has ended in heartbreak.
Onana will receive a larger wage in Turkey, but United will not be charged a loan fee.
Since there is no commitment to buy under the terms of the present loan agreement, the Premier League’s biggest clubs may think about selling him permanently next summer.
