In Manchester United’s final game before the international break, Ruben Amorim was dealt a substantial injury blow when Matheus Cunha limped off the pitch.
The summer signing was forced to conclude his shift far earlier than he had intended after only 31 minutes of play when he pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring issue and needed treatment from the physiotherapists.
After losing to Arsenal on the first day of the season and drawing away at Craven Cottage, United defeated Burnley to earn their first win of the season.
However, as worries about Cunha’s condition grew, supporters were unable to fully enjoy the three points.
Matheus Cunha’s injury setback leaves Ruben Amorim sweating
Cunha has started all four of the Reds’ Premier League and League Cup games this season. Even if he hasn’t contributed a goal yet, his attacking impact has been completely different from what fans had become used to over the previous 12 months.
He may have simply suggested that his return is closer than first thought, but the idea of missing him for Sunday’s travel to play Manchester City at the Etihad is still extremely terrifying.
Could Cunha be back in action after the break?
The 26-year-old Brazilian international posted a picture of himself working out in the gym on Sunday night. The Old Trafford supporters thought he was hinting at a quick return to action when he captioned the photo with the words “Sundays” and a smirking emoji.
In addition to Cunha, supporters are excited to see if Senne Lammens, the team’s last summer acquisition, will make his Etihad debut this weekend. It would undoubtedly be a baptism of fire, but it would also be an incredible chance to start strong with a strong performance against such formidable opponents.
